PayPal and Venmo Now Offer Comet Invites + Complimentary Perplexity Pro Subscriptions

Invites to Perplexity’s new AI-driven web browser, Comet, have become one of the most sought-after items online right now. Initially, this new product was only accessible to the AI company’s Max subscribers—who pay $200 per month—and a small selection of invited users. But now, there’s a fresh way to skip ahead on the waitlist: On Wednesday, PayPal announced it will provide its customers (including both PayPal and Venmo users) with early access to Comet, plus a free one-year subscription to Perplexity’s premium service, Perplexity Pro—an offering that typically costs $200 annually.

Launched back in July, the Comet browser comes with a built-in AI assistant, AI-generated summaries of search results, product comparison tools, and various other features designed to enhance the browsing experience.

While co-marketing partnerships are usually unremarkable, this particular deal deserves attention—largely because PayPal has the reach to put Comet in front of millions of U.S. customers right now, with plans to expand that audience even further globally down the line.

This collaboration is part of an expanded partnership between PayPal and Perplexity—one that delivers unique benefits to both companies. Earlier this summer, the two firms teamed up to integrate “agentic commerce” into Perplexity’s platform: When users ask Perplexity’s AI to find products, book travel, or purchase tickets, they can now check out instantly using PayPal or Venmo.

For PayPal, the deal offers two key advantages: It can attract more users to its apps by touting the exclusive Comet invite and free subscription, while also shining a light on its new subscriptions hub. This hub acts as a one-stop destination where users can view and manage all their recurring subscriptions. (To sweeten the pot further, PayPal is running a separate promotion: Customers who link at least three subscriptions to PayPal and pay for them through the service will receive a $50 reward.)

For Perplexity, the partnership means greater visibility at a critical time—when AI agents are competing fiercely for user attention, and AI-powered browsers are trying to shake up the market currently led by Chrome. It could also help Perplexity grow its base of paid subscribers: When the free year of Perplexity Pro ends, some users may forget to cancel their subscriptions, while others may choose to keep paying because they value the service.

To claim the free 12-month Perplexity Pro subscription and Comet invite, PayPal and Venmo users can access the offer directly within their respective apps. Important notes: Each PayPal account is eligible for only one invite, and the offer is not available to existing Perplexity Pro customers.

Diego Scotti, General Manager of the Consumer Group at PayPal, shared a prepared statement about the partnership: “Our collaboration with Perplexity gives PayPal and Venmo customers early access to one of the most highly anticipated AI browsers and flexible subscription offerings. It’s thrilling to deliver the deals and tools our customers want most—solutions that meet their needs and help them manage their financial lives with more simplicity, added convenience, and extra rewards.”

PayPal notes that the offer is valid through the end of 2025. At launch, it’s available to U.S. customers and select international customers, with a full rollout to additional international markets coming later this month. Once customers sign up for Perplexity Pro, they’ll receive immediate instructions on how to download and install the Comet browser.

Additionally, PayPal’s new subscriptions hub—after a prior testing and rollout phase—is now available to all U.S. customers this week.

Update: Following the original publication of this article, PayPal reached out to clarify that the subscriptions hub feature is rolling out in some international markets today. This article has been updated to reflect this new information.
